  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups rice cereal
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, let it cook for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. In a large bowl, combine rice cereal and nuts (if using). Pour the hot mixture over the cereal and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Press the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch pan.
  6. In another bowl, melt chocolate chips and pour over the cereal mixture, spreading evenly.
  7. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
